Effective 17 July 2026  ·  Last updated 17 July 2026

Most of the people who use The Better Athlete are children. We have written this in plain English because the parent giving consent should be able to read it without a lawyer.

Who we are

The Better Athlete ("TBA", "we") operates thebetterathlete.io. We are based in Plantation, Florida, USA. For any privacy question or request, email info@thebetterathlete.io.

Children and parental consent

We knowingly collect personal information from children. That is not an accident, our athletes are typically 10 to 18 years old. We do not pretend otherwise, and we do not rely on the fiction that no child uses this service.

If the athlete is under 18, a parent or legal guardian must create or approve the account and provide consent before we collect the athlete's information. If the athlete is under 13, the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) applies and that consent is mandatory.

A parent or guardian may at any time: review the personal information we hold about their child, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it, and refuse to permit further collection. Email us and we will act on the request. We will not condition a child's participation on collecting more information than is reasonably necessary.

If you believe a child's information has been collected without the required consent, email us and we will delete it.

What we collect

When an account is created

When the service is used

When an email is submitted to a waitlist or newsletter form

Payments

Payments are processed by Stripe. We never receive or store card numbers. Stripe handles card data under its own privacy policy.

Why we collect it

We do not sell personal information. We do not share it with advertisers. We do not run behavioural advertising.

Who else touches the data

We use a small number of service providers, each of which processes data on our instructions:

When an athlete requests or books a coach, we share the information that coach needs to deliver the session, including name, age, sport, goals, and relevant intake answers. Coaches are independent professionals, not our employees. They are contractually required to use that information only to deliver coaching.

We may disclose information if legally compelled, or where necessary to protect the safety of a child or any person.

How long we keep it

Account information is kept while the account is open. If an account is deleted through the app it is marked deleted and removed from the service immediately. Backups roll off on our providers' cycles. If you want data permanently erased rather than deactivated, email us and we will do it manually.

Being straight with you: we do not yet have an automated permanent-deletion job or a self-serve data export button. Both are on our list. Until they exist, email us and a human, currently the founder, will handle it.

Your rights

You (or the parent of a minor athlete) may ask us to access, correct, delete, or export the personal information we hold. Email info@thebetterathlete.io. We aim to respond within 30 days. We will not charge you or retaliate for making a request.

Security

Passwords are hashed with bcrypt. Traffic is encrypted in transit. Database access is restricted by row-level security policies. Payment data never reaches our servers. No system is perfectly secure, and we will not claim ours is. If we discover a breach affecting your information, we will tell you.

Cookies and tracking

We use only what is required to keep you logged in. As of the effective date above we do not run third-party analytics or advertising trackers on this site. If that changes, this page changes first.

Where data is held

Our providers store data in the United States. If you use the service from outside the US, your information will be processed in the US.

Changes

If we make a material change, particularly one affecting children's data, we will update the date at the top and, where the change is significant, notify account holders by email.
